Basé essentiellement sur l’image en mouvement, le travail d’Omer Fast explore la complexité de la narration à travers une pratique qui trouble les frontières entre le « réel » et la « représentation ». Si l’origine de ses histoires est souvent documentaire, leur construction s’affranchit cependant d’une démarche naturaliste et résiste à toute conclusion ou révélation d’une « vérité » ultime du récit. Omer Fast s’intéresse au rapport entre individu et collectivité, à la façon dont les événements sont transformés en mémoires et histoires ainsi qu’à leurs modes de circulation et de médiatisation. Ainsi, l’artiste interroge les politiques de représentation, dans la continuité de projets qui, au sein de la programmation du Jeu de Paume, ont proposé de nouvelles formes narratives dans le champ de la vidéo et de l’installation.
L’exposition organisée par le Jeu de Paume présente les œuvres CNN Concatenated (2002), A Tank Translated (2002), 5,000 Feet is the Best (2011) et une nouvelle production spécialement conçue pour cette exposition intitulée Continuity (Diptych) (2012-2015).

The Jeu de Paume is presenting a monographic exhibition by the artist Omer Fast. Fast’s work has already been shown at the documenta 13, as well as at numerous biennials and group and solo shows. Drawing for the most part on moving images, Fast’s work explores narrative complexity through a practice that blurs the boundaries between « reality » and « representation ».
While Fast’s stories are often rooted in documentary, their construction is non-naturalistic and resists the temptation of any conclusion or revelation of some ultimate “truth”. Fast investigates the relationship between the individual and the social group, together with the way events are transformed into memories and stories, and their modes of circulation and media coverage.
